Rock City Ostaš [The Czech Republic]

Rock City Ostaš

Below you will find practical information: Where to park your car? How long does it take to get to the rock city Ostaš? What is the shortest route? Which route to choose to Ostaš? You will find answers to these and other questions below

Rock City Ostaš – a hidden gem among Czech rock cities, not as well-known as Adrspach or Prachovské Skály, but in our opinion, worth discovering. This place is full of picturesque viewpoints offering beautiful landscapes. However, if you are looking for intense passages through rock labyrinths, more extreme experiences can be found at Błędne Skały, where you sometimes have to crouch. Nevertheless, Ostaš provided us with plenty of joy and smiles during our hike. 😊

Rock City Ostas Parking:

We visited Rock City Ostaš from Kudowa-Zdrój, as it is only 24 km from the Polish border by car. After about 35 minutes, we arrived at the parking lot 🅿️ (parking coordinates). On the left side, there is a small wooden hut where the parking attendant collects fees. The cost of parking is 100 CZK (approximately 20 PLN - you can find current exchange rates at Alior Bank Currency Exchange). We paid in cash, but it’s worth asking if card payments are accepted if you prefer that method (unfortunately, we didn’t ask ☹️).

The attendant clearly explained which route to take, informed us about the restaurant and toilets that open at 11 AM, and pointed out the best place to park. The entire conversation was easily conducted in Polish.

The trail at Rock City Ostaš

After parking, we put on comfortable shoes, pack a single backpack – perfect for the approximately 3-kilometer trail – and set off, starting at an elevation of 568 meters above sea level. From the parking lot, the signpost to Ostaš is easy to spot. We choose the 🔵blue and 🟢green trails, which lead straight through charming buildings that we pass on the right. The trail is well-marked, including on the fences of homes, so it’s impossible to get lost.

Is there anything else you need help with or more information about your trip to Ostaš?

After walking a few meters, we pass some holiday cottages on the left and the previously mentioned restaurant, while on the right, there is a free toilet. The 🔵blue trail merges with the 🔴red trail behind the cottages – we turn left, following the markings of both trails. After a short walk, the red trail veers right towards Kočičí skály under Ostaš, but we stick to the 🔵blue trail and go straight.

After about 275 meters, we reach a fork in the path where we turn right (there’s not much choice here, as there’s a barrier on the left 😉).

We are at an elevation of 583 meters above sea level, having climbed 15 meters so far – which means the hardest part is still ahead of us, but we don’t mind because we know beautiful views await us. 💪

After another 100 meters, we turn left at a 90-degree angle. The trail becomes rockier, so we need to be careful not to trip. However, the path is well-marked, so we aren’t worried about getting lost. The next 100 meters lead to another left turn, and then we have the final stretch – about 400 meters – after which we will be able to enjoy breathtaking views.

At the fork, we decide to turn right and immediately immerse ourselves in the rock city. There, we encounter narrow passages (though not as tight as in Błędne Skały) and rock climbs (though not as high as in Prachovské Skály), but the entire hike is still a lot of fun. The rock labyrinth hides numerous viewpoints from which we can admire beautiful landscapes.

After exiting the “labyrinth” of rocks, we follow the 🔵blue trail towards the highest peak of Ostaš (701 meters above sea level), and then to the Frýdlantská Skála viewpoint, which offers a great panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains. ❤️

Ostaš and Frýdlantská Skála conquered!

After taking beautiful photos and not only reaching the summit of Ostaš but also creating unforgettable memories, we head back to the parking lot towards Ostaš Osada. The entire trip took us 1 hour and 25 minutes, covering a total of 3.5 km. It was a short but eventful hike that we will surely remember for a long time!

If you enjoyed hiking in Ostaš, be sure to discover other rock cities that amaze with their uniqueness!

Adršpach is one of the most beautiful places in the Czech Republic – impressive rock formations, crystal-clear lakes, and picturesque gorges create a magical atmosphere. Prachovské Skály, on the other hand, is a true paradise for trekking enthusiasts, full of narrow crevices and viewpoints with panoramas of the Czech landscapes. Each of these places offers unforgettable experiences and views worth capturing! 🙂

We also encourage you to explore other attractions in the Czech Republic.
