SKALNIK 945 m n.p.m- the highest peak of the Rudawy Janowiskie

30 August 2024

Skalnik Rudawy Janowickie

Below you will find practical information: Where to park your car? How long does it take to hike to Skalnik? What’s the shortest trail to Skalnik? Where can you find the stamp for the Crown of Polish Mountains? Which trail should you choose for Skalnik? You’ll find answers to these and other questions below.

Skalnik (945 meters above sea level) – the highest peak of the Rudawy Janowickie, part of the Crown of Polish Mountains. The stamp is located at the summit, though not directly at the peak. Coming from the "Pod Ostrą Małą" side, look to your left, and you'll see an "information board" along with a "box" where you'll find the stamp.

Practical information about Skalnik:

- free parking

- stamp at the summit

- free entry

- Skalnik with children

The peak is not demanding, so you can easily hike with children, though definitely without a stroller. 🙂

The trail we chose for Skalnik:

Czarnów – Pod Ostrą Małą – Skalnik – Pod Ostrą Małą – Czarnów

Trail length: 4.4 km

Hiking time: 1:30 h

Elevation gain: 210 meters

When conquering the peak, we decided to drive to a small parking lot near the village of Czarnów. There’s a tiny parking area for just a few cars. Exact location here 🅿️ https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZmwemMfmvg73E8fg6 .

mportant information ⚠️: From Kowary, you cannot access the area via Wojska Polskiego Street or Górna Street – the forest road has a no-entry sign. We recommend approaching via the villages of Rędziny or Pisarzowice, depending on where you're coming from. Entry is free.

We start from the parking lot on the 🟢🔵 green-blue trail.

Our journey begins on an asphalt road. After about 250 meters, we turn right across a wooden footbridge. Here, we face an uphill climb with a gradient of nearly 30%, leading through the forest – the ground is root-and-stone-covered. On rainy days, it’s best to avoid the roots as they can be very slippery, and it’s easy to "slip and fall." Keep a close eye on the trail markings because there are sharp 90-degree turns that are well-marked, so you shouldn't have any trouble staying on course.

We reach "Pod Ostrą Małą" – we can say the hardest part is behind us. 💪 Here, we take a sharp turn.

On the final 600-meter stretch, the elevation gain is no more than 7%. We walk through the forest and along a path that, after rain, becomes muddy with large puddles. After about 10 minutes, we are greeted with this view 😍

In the distance (marked in red), you can see the aforementioned "information board" along with the stamp.

As for the return trip, we chose the same path, but for those who prefer not to retrace their steps, you can choose the following route:

The trail we chose for Skalnik:

Czarnów – Pod Ostrą Małą – Skalnik – Przełęcz Rudawska – Czarnów

Trail length: 6.3 km

Hiking time: 2:05 h

Elevation gain: 289 meters

We continue on the 🔵blue trail and at Przełęcz Rudawska, turn right onto the 🟡yellow trail. After walking about 600 meters on the yellow trail, we turn right and follow the asphalt road. We continue on the yellow trail, and when we reach the Czartak Agrotourism, we turn right onto the 🔵blue trail – after turning, you should already see your car. Following the signpost, we are practically halfway through our route.

And that’s it – short, concise, and to the point! If you're ready for more peaks, hit the trail.

We highly recommend heading straight to Skopiec!🙂
